How to spot treat your pet stains when they happen

September 15, 2022

We at My Home Carpet Cleaners know that family goes beyond the people that live in your home, it’s also the four-legged furry friends! Pets are the best companions and truly make every day better! That being said, sometimes accidents happen. We want to make sure you are knowledgeable about how to spot-treat these accidents when they happen, so you can preserve the life of your carpet, rugs, and upholstery! Of course you will always need a professional cleaning, but spot treatment can save you a lot of heartache and have a better chance of attacking the stain!

Step 1- Make sure to remove all moisture from the fabric or carpet.

You will most likely have to use multiple rags or towels to soak up the accident from the spot. It is important you do this BEFORE treating the stain or the urine will remain in the fabric/carpet and it’s more likely that your pet will come back to it later for a second offense!

Step 2 – Mix equal parts baking soda and hot water and dap over the stain

Once the baking soda has dissolved in the water, use a clean rag to DAB the stain, not rub! This will help break up the pet stain and odor and help lift it to the surface****.

Step 3 – Use a dry towel or rag to blot the mixture away

Make sure to blot the baking soda mixture us with a dry towel until the spot is almost dry

Step 4 – Call My Home Carpet Cleaners!

You’ll want to have us out as soon as possible to continue treating the stain. We use a chemical free, all-natural pet solution that is safe for your pets & kids! **** Please note that cat urine stains may be more difficult to remove, because of the aomina. While it is possible for us to remove the odor, the ammonia in the cat urine could bleach your carpets, rug, or upholsteries depending on the fabric!
